Mike Ferrara's New York Yankees Fan Profile

Brief description

I am a 23 year old die-hard Yankee, Giants and Islanders fan from the Hudson Valley. I love talking about all sports and the people that broadcast them. I have a tendency to be a "little" too die-hard at times and can get very agitated when something goes wrong with one of my teams...So strap in and get ready for what will surely be an up and down roller coaster ride during the 2008 Yankees campaign.

The First of many posts about the off-season posted on 11/05/2008

MY WISH LIST:

1-- Plan the starting rotation around having Joba in the BULLPEN...Have 6 starters going into the season...

-- He can be the next Mariano...elite closers are hard to come by...

2-- How much for Sabathia?

--Early reports have the Yanks ready to offer 30 million a year...that is crazy...To me, that just magnifies how they messed up the Johan situtation last year... With so much money coming off the books, and so much coming in from the new stadium, this type of contract does not in anyway put a dent in the Yankee wallet...

3-- Derek Lowe

--If we land Sabathia, Lowe would be great for depth...He is an innings eater and has proved time and time again that he can pitch well in a big spot...Just what we need...

4-- Figure out first base

Manny coming full circle? posted on 10/30/2008

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/extramustard/specials/morning_jolt/2008/10/30/morning.jolt/index.html

Well this would be interesting to say the least...Manny playing right field.  It is nice to think about what that lineup would look like with him and A-Rod batting next to one another.  The real question wouldn't be the lineup, it would be the locker room...

I like how the story finishes with what is the real issue for the Yankees...Starting pitching...I am very mixed on whether or not I would want Manny on the Yankees...

Let's also take this morning jolt thing on SI with a grain of salt, it is a great read as far as the rumor mill is concerned, but it has yet to prove itself totally accurate...

The Blog is back...my apologies posted on 10/30/2008

Sorry for the lack of posts the past few months, now that the World Series is over (finally), the hot stove is about to start up and I could not be happier...15 days and counting until free agency.  Something tells me the Yankees will not only be active in signing free agents, but also active in the trade market.

Many will say that the off-season hot stove is just as intriguing as the actual games themselves...I wouldn't go that far, BUT there is something about baseball's off-season that no other sport can match...

In the coming days/weeks I will be posting my wish list and ways that I think the Yankees can get back to post-season success...coming off of the first quiet October in the  Bronx in 14 years.... (I was 8 years old, the last time the Yankees didn't make it to the playoffs)...

BREAKING NEWS: MANNY'S A DODGER =CHRISTMAS IN JULY FOR YANKEES FANS posted on 07/31/2008

The news all Yankee fans wanted/needed to hear today broke a little while ago, as Manny Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers in a 3-way deal that also included the Pirates....Jason Bay is the main piece that the Sox get back...

The Sawx are going to regret this come October...JAson Bay has never played a meaningful, late-season game in the Big Leagues yet...OH BABY...

Great timing as the Yankees get ready to play the Angels, which historically, doesn't always go 'that well' for us...

Wow, who would've thought that Joe Torre would one day be managing Manny Ramirez...

Delayed Reaction to Pudge posted on 07/31/2008

Well that was a surprise...

Nice win by the Yanks followed by a very unexpected trade with the Tigers to acquire Catcher, Pudge Rodriguez for P Kyle Farnsworth.

The more I think about this trade, the happier I get...you can take the angle that the Yanks (like any other team in baseball) can't afford to give up a quality arm...That is true, however this 'quality arm' is not exactly what I would call consistent and not someone that i want pitching meaningful innings in, in October.

Pudge brings a lot to the table...He has had a decent offensive year, and similiar to his role with the Tigers, won't be asked to provide all of the offense.  He will also be good for the young pitchers on the staff if/when they can come back.

What a big season it has been in terms of major trades.  With all of the moves that have been made (including another surprise, with Griffey Jr. going to the White Sox) the biggest trade has yet to have happened...
