Boston Celtics

7 October 2010

I really like the direction this team is going but I'm not so sure they can really be a contender in the East this year.  The East has gotten a lot stronger over the last few years and while I think they can make the playoffs I don't really see any chance that they can really beat The Magic, the Heat, the Celtics, of the Bulls.  And I'm skeptical they can even beat teams like the 76ers or the Hawks.

Presently, the only squads that are even remotely capable of competing with Cleveland are the Boston Celtics (33-18), the Orlando Magic (37-18), the San Antonio Spurs (31-21) and the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers (42-13).

Or is it dilemmi? Either way.

As the entire NBA world eagerly awaits the potential match-up of Kobe and LeBron in this year's finals, they also can't help observe it's getting increasingly difficult for them to get there. The Magic and Nuggets are hitting their strides at the right time, with bench players stepping up at crucial moments, Van Panic and Karl making good coaching moves, and both team's point guards acting as the leaders they can be. Even if the current and future MJ's of our time average 50 a game for the rest of the playoffs, it won't matter. That's not how you reach the Golden Summit (Yes, I just used "Golden Summit" as an analogy for the Finals. Deal with it. I like it.).

When Mark Cuban told Lydia Moore that her son, the Nuggets' Kenyon Martin, was a "thug" after Game 3 of the Nuggets-Mavs series, he crossed a line. I thought I'd point out the Top 10 Things he MEANT TO SAY to Ms. Moore:

Say Swine Flu keeps spreading. Say it gets worse, like "Outbreak" worse, and the majority of people in the US get it, including LeBron James. I still don't think I could beat him one-on-one. Even if it was first to score. Or if we played "PIG." Remember when Jordan had the flu in the '88 playoffs, and he dropped 47 against the Knicks, AT the Garden??? We spectators/bloggers/sports fans seriously over-estimate the flu. If LeBron had swine flu, not only would he stuff me like a Quizno's Torpedo, he would still be able to beat the following athletes/teams:

I'm worried for three reasons:

1) Defense. Having witnessed the Boston Celtics' utter demolition of the Lakers last June, first-hand, in a crowded Georgetown bar amongst rabid Boston Masshole fans yelling while chugging beer (I didn't even think that was possible), I've watched Kobe's squad carefully all year for any signs of an improving defense. I didn't see much worth noting, other than the fact Ariza was sorely missed. If Bynum's back to full strength, that's one thing, but I highly doubt he is. Let's check some stats: at year's end, LA was giving up 100 points per game on average to its opponents. Through its first four games with Utah in the playoffs, the Lakers are allowing the Jazz 98 points a game. LeBron, in comparison, led his Cavs to a first-round sweep of the Shadowy Pistons, including holding them to a pathetic 78 a game. A twenty-point-differential? Don't the playoffs get harder as you progress? I realize the Jazz are tougher than Detroit, and way more physical, but don't be fooled if you think Roy/Aldridge/Blake, or Artest/Yao/Brooks, whoever Kobe faces next, won't be a tougher challenge. Especially if it's vs. Portland, on the road, where the Rose Garden owns Los Angeles.

Okay, let's just be honest here.  Nate Robinson may not have fully deserved the 2006 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Title, but he sure earned it this year.  Nate battled the defending champion, Dwight Howard, in the Finals and one-upped the ultimate gamesman in the end.  Together they put on possibly the greatest show in the history of the contest since the days of Michael Jordan battling Dominique Wilkins.

That said, here we go...

1-Boston Celtics; 41-10, 2nd in the Eastern Conference

Yes, I'm completely aware of the fact that the Lakers beat the Celtics, in Boston, without Andrew Bynum last night. Still, I refuse to put all my eggs in one basket. I personally prefer the Lakers to the Celtics, and I was rooting for Los Angeles last night, but I'm reserving my biases for the purpose of this post.

(Note: I've published this post on another blog of mine, here.)

Did you see these two teams yesterday? I don't think I've ever been more impressed by a pair of NBA teams on the same day. The Celtics absolutely dismantled a respectable Dallas Mavericks' team, and the Lakers shamed the once-mighty San Antonio Spurs. Everything was clicking for both the Celtics and Lakers, and yet it's not as if this was a one-time deal.

The Boston Celtics have to tread carefully right now. Their mini skid has become a slide, and they've actually fallen behind the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference standings.

Sure the Men in Green are the defending league champions, but the chinks in their armor may eventually become gaping holes. The Celtics and their fans are getting a little worried, and the players have no one to blame but themselves.

With the MLB playoffs set to begin, there is a subtle difference in the air compared to start of any other postseason. In the NHL, fans can potentially look forward to a great Canadians/Bruins series that is not only exciting, but has a historical kick to it. Likewise basketball fans always have the chance to see if the Suns can finally get past the Spurs and football fans love seeing the rivalry of the Eagles Vs the City of Philadelphia when the Eagles so much as get tackled for a loss.

ve made clear my displeasure of these so-called "experts" not giving enough credit to the Boston Celtics.  Whether it was the league not liking the "bland, pale, un-marketable" franchise, which boasts the most tradition and titles.  Or ex-coaches, execs, players and commentators harboring old bitter feelings of jealousy, racism and hatred of the once and now proud franchise.

Delusional Boston Celtics superstar Paul Pierce told a Spanish publication last week that he was the best player in the entire world.

"I’m the best player in the world,” said Pierce, 30, a man who has only made the All-NBA Third Team three-times since making his professional debut with the Celtics in 1999.

"It's not a game, it's an arms race" - Kanye West and Fallout Boy belt this hook over and over again on a recent hit with that same title. In that context, Kanye and the Fallout Boy guys are referring to the battle of musical artists not only surviving in a competitive worldwide market, but one with hindrances around every music sharing online ripping program. While that's an issue for another day and another blogsite, it's relevance is crucial when talking about the current state of Major League baseball and the National Basketball Association.

Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 98-88 Thursday night at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston to take a 1-0 advantage in the NBA Finals. Early in the third quarter, Pierce fell to the hardwood and grasped his right knee in apparent agony. Providing the illusion that he was immobile, Pierce was carried off the court by his teammates and he was transported to the locker room in a wheel chair. Despite his horrific and debilitating injury, Pierce astonishingly returned to game action unscathed within a matter of minutes and finished the contest with 22 points on 7 of 10 shooting.

With the game on the line. The Boston Celtics host the The Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals. This is not a repeat of the 1987 NBA Finals  (that featured both teams) although the teams are built similar. The Celtics have the "Big 3" with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce in comparison with Robert Parish, Kevin Mchale and Larry Bird. Three great players, two diffrent teams. The Celtics have to play aggressive on the offenssive end of the court, while maintaining their league's best defense in order to win. The Lakers, who are bringing in Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom are also built to that 1987 running team of Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar. This 2008 NBA Finals looks to be very exciting!!! The Lakers must slow down the Celtics offense in order to win!!! I belive that Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins will have bigger impacts than Derek Fischer and Vladimir Radmanovic. The Celtics will win Game 1 but look for the Lakers to compete with great intensity. I think the Lakers will be a better bet for Game 2. My Prediction: The

We have been waiting for this moment for months.  No, I’m not talking about the Jason Kidd trade to go through (which it did today).  I am talking to about the second half of the NBA season to begin.  The first three and a half months can be such a drag, and usually are but in the second half, everything picks up.  It is a two-month stretch run to the playoffs.  This is the time when teams like San Antonio and Detroit flip their switch on and look to be playing their best when the playoffs begin.  The flurry of trades that have gone on in the last two or three weeks has just made the second half that much more interesting.  The NBA season is about 20 games too long and it kills ratings but now is the time to jump on the bandwagon.  These next couple months of the regular season and the playoffs are going to be some of the best basketball since the ‘80’s.  The NBA, where exciting happens.

The Chicago Bulls won last night against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves 96-85. It is a game they desperately needed and there will be many more games to follow that they will desperately need. Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Chris Duhon, and Joe Smith all sat out due to nagging injuries. The situation in Chicago has become desperate.
